Tramway models and layouts are regularly featuring at model railway exhibitions, and gaining increasing public interest as a result of the new tramway systems now opening in this country, eg.Manchester, Birmingham, Sheffield and Croydon with others being planned. Add to this the fact that a great number of people from every part of the country travel to Blackpool to see it's world famous illuminations and the appeal of Blackpool in the box is apparent.
Conscious of the need for you to keep your expenses to the minimum we keep our claim for reimbursements to the minimum. This is our hobby and being retired we are able to travel to exhibitions ANYWHERE in the U.K. without having to claim for lost wages. We make no charge for attending an exhibition and as Blackpool in the box MkII and the display travel in a purpose built trailer and we all travel in the one car there are no costs for van hire etc., which can be in excess of £300 for some layouts. We only ask that the actual cost of fuel used during our journey to and from the exhibition be reimbursed. Obviously, where we have a long distance to travel, overnight accommodation on a bed, breakfast and evening meal basis will be needed, possibly for the night before and, in cases of exceptionally long distances, the evening the exhibition closes. We dont insist on five star hotels, being quite happy to stay with club members or in guest houses. We're quite happy to share a room - but not a bed!! In some cases, generally where the travelling time is less than 1.5 hours each way, it may prove cheaper to travel each day instead of lodging.
We have no delusions of grandeur and realise that Blackpool in the box is a "simple" layout" in modelling terms. The layout is absolutely unique in the world, being the first and only full size exhibition layout using lighting effects as its principal scenic effect. For this reason we would be happy to participate with any activity to publicise your show. Your exhibition would, of course, be featured on this web site which will, hopefully, be of help in attracting visitors.
